Paul's concern in Colossians that we continue in the faith and hope of Christ is supported by John's gospel that if we, the branches, want to remain in the Vine (Christ), his words must remain in us, and that if we want to remain in his love, we must obey his commandments. Here are some practical ways to keep the Word of God in you:

  • Daily reading of the Scripture
    • Read 86 verses or 4 chapters a day and you will read the whole Bible in one year
    • Read through the Bible in chronological order
    • Read a chapter of Proverbs for each day of the month (31 total chapters)
    • Read two chapters of the Psalms, Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon a day (170 total chapters)
  • A daily devotional reading inspired by Scripture
  • Read a Christian book from CPH
  • Listen to the Bible or a Christian book on audio
  • Listen to a LCMS podcast on Scripture (Synod or District)
  • Do an individual Bible study on a key word in Scripture or a book of the Bible. Get a Lutheran Study Bible, use BibleGateway or LCMS Bible studies.
  • Attend a group Bible study (Holy Cross Adult Bible studies are Sundays at 9am and some Wednesdays -see calendar)
  • Attend worship regularly every Sunday at 10am
  • Memorize Bible verses through the Synod (or through an App for your phone)
